HBIA Opens New Regional Offices

For Release: May 8, 2005

The Healthy Building Institute of America (HBIA) is honored to announce the opening of their new regional offices in Florida and Texas. HBIA will be working with local construction companies, property management groups and other service professionals to address the Mold / IAQ related issues and Healthy Building Service Solutions.

Molds and our environment have changed drastically over the past decade and are having a direct impact on home and workplace health concerns, new construction, insurance policies, legal issues and real estate transactions. One of the primary elements leading to today's mold problems is the natural process of antimicrobial resistance (mold, bacteria and viruses forming an immunity to chemical based cleaners and micro biocides).

To address this fast growing environmental problem, we are teaming up with contractors, insurance companies and other service organizations to provide training, education and support services that lead to marketable Healthy Home and Healthy Building Certifications. This includes a multi-year warranty against moisture intrusion and mold growth.

This comprehensive package of training and support services being offered through HBIA provides the most effective and affordable approach for preventing and resolving modern environmental health and safety issues. HBIA is offering Healthy Home Certification packages that include training, project management, “chemical free” technologies and solutions, as well as ongoing support services.

For larger projects this includes certified training for the contractor(s) and sub contractors thus providing them with important Continuing Education Credits. Education is Key and Teamwork is Essential.

How Does A Healthy Building Certification Project Work?

First, a typical Healthy Building Certification project includes environmental education and training to help coordinate all parties involved so we can work together as a team to address possible health and safety issues impacting the project, as well as, reduce risk and prevent future moisture issues and potential mold growth.

The reason behind the whole team approach is because everyone from the architect to the window installers to the maintenance manager can have an environmental impact on the property. For example, if the siding contractor does not perform his trade with moisture intrusion in mind, the entire building envelope could be compromised.

Secondly, the coordination of certain support services are needed for the project. This includes consultation on the mechanical systems, moisture/water sensors, healthy building materials and environmentally friendly technologies and solutions. The coordination of support services may also include sanitizing certain building materials before installation, periodic inspections for moisture and fungal growth, IAQ testing and remediation services for restoration projects.

How Will This Program Benefit My Business?

The Healthy Building Certification Program focuses on taking a pro-active approach in providing healthy properties that offer added value, product differentiation and competitive advantages, while minimizing the risk and potential for environmental related lawsuits.

What Does It Cost?

A Healthy Home Certification Package only adds an average of between 1% to 3% to the a typical luxury home or condo and can quickly differentiate itself from the competition.

Other Benefits of a Healthy Building Certification Program Include:

· Insurance rates can be reduced for home owners, as well as the builders and developers involved in projects

· Special mortgage rates can be arranged for buyers that allow them to offset the slight increase in the purchase price of a Certified Healthy Home

· IAQ Improvements and Energy Star Compliance helps reduce operations and utilities expenses

· A Healthy Home development has more promotional appeal for free press and cross promotions leading to faster sale rates and ultimately reduced financing cost

· Property and Facility Managers are certified by the EEF / HBIA as Certified IAQ Coordinators

· Builder and Developer are certified as Healthy Home Builders and Developers

· Sub contractors working on the project are trained and certified to help them reduce risk and improve the quality of their work
